  • Kaspersky | Detectives | Film

These videoa are part of a series of short clips produced to introduce the speakers at the “Kaspersky Security Analyst Summit 2016” in Tenerife, Spain.

We shot the portraits with Blackmagic and Red cameras. The Blackmagic was used because of its superb raw mode shooting .dngs, while the Red Dragon was necessary because of its frame rate for the slow motion effect.

Particle effects were created in Houdini and rendered in Redshift for Softimage. Compositing entirely done in Nuke.

Additional to the clips print motives were shot in high resolution with DSLR cameras.

Sounddesign for the clips by Audioversum, Düsseldorf.

  • BFF | Jump #3 exhibition a great success

    BFF_WildCard_Jump_03_000

On the 18th of June 2015 the BFF Germany (Association of Freelance Photographers) hosted almost simultaneously its latest exhibition project in three major German metropolises, Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart.

Contrary to all its former exhibition projects no images were presented directly in the exhibition rooms. The visitors, equipped with their smart phones, tablets and an augmented reality app discovered the images via visual bar codes attached to the walls and stands. Once scanned the images from the phtographers appeared on the screen, following the movements of the digital device in space perspectivly correct.

The event received an enormous media echo in more than 70 print publications and on German television. The background of the exhibition that images nowadays are consumed more and more solely through digitial media was depicted in almost all articles.

I’m glad that I was part of the team of exhibiting photographers. Thanks Axel for all the photos shot on the evening!

  • BFF | Jump #1 in Düsseldorf’s “Boui Boui Bilk”

    BFF_Jump-Ausstellung-Duesseldorf_13-2048x1536

Here are a few impressions from yesterday’s BFF (Association of Freelance Photographers) exhibition in Düsseldorf’s “Boui Boui Bilk” hall, a former screw manufactory.

For this event we came up with an extraordinary way to present the images. Contrary to a static hang each photographer’s work was presented by an assistant, fully dressed in a black lycra, carrying two small billboards attached to a supporting structure. In a slightly choreographed way these living billboards changed their positions in the exhibition room repeatedly during the evening, resulting in a constantly changing hang.

With the arrival of more and more visitors during the course of the evening at one point the space got too overcrowded so that the assistants were relieved from the weight carried on their shoulders and stands were used for the placement of the pictures.

Apart from a great party and the enormous attention we received, the BFF also presented its latest showreel with the work of their members within Nordrhein-westfalen.

  • BFF | We were guests at “10 years Regielounge”

Yesterday evening we were invited to the 10 year anniversary party of the Regielounge at Düsseldorf’s Nachtresidenz. The BFF created especially for this event a showreel which presents the work of its photographers in Nordrhein-Westfalen which was well received.

Apart from the usual nice party atmosphere, several nice showreels from different directors made it a worthwhile and fun evening.

  • Don’t coffee block your smile

Fresh breath and smile with Trident White and JWT New York

In this campaign for New York based advertising agency J. Walter Thompson, I did have the chance to work together with creative director Matt McKay and art director John Cox for Trident White chewing gum.

There’s no need to be afraid to flash a smile after chewing Trident White to prevent stains that come from eating and drinking your favorite foods.

I scouted out great coffee shops to serve as backgrounds for this tabletop shoot, in addition to shooting specially illustrated paper cups by Josh Harvey and Ana Gomez.

  • Flemish masters revisited

Early 17th century still life poster

In another fruitful collaboration with Kirsten Benoufa, stylist with the LIGAWEST styling agency in Düsseldorf, this recent photograph came into existence. Impressed by the style and composition of 17th century still lifes, created for instance by Flemish artist Clara Peeters or Dutch painters like Pieter Claesz or Willem Claeszoon Heda, we embarked on this personal project.

In the tradition of the vanitas paintings the image consists of reminders of decay, ageing and the certainty of death. Like the fruit, which is now colourful, vivid and sweet and in the next moment pallid, rotten and inedible.

Contrary to other recent projects this image has been shot pretty straight forward with only little involvement of CGI and post production. For those wondering which part is CGI: It’s tiny, crawling and often the reason to call the pest control.
